Order of St John of Jerusalem of
Rhodes and of Malta
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Albanian Organisation of the Order of Malta in Shkodra, Director Maranaj Marku and the spiritual guide Frà Gazmend Tinaj went to audience with His Most Eminent Highness, the Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta Frà Matthew Festing at the Magistral Palace in Rome to present him with a commemorative honour.
Volunteers of the Sovereign Order of Malta are gathering in Krakow, Poland, for the World Youth Day 2016, starting in less than a week, from 25 to 31 July.
Diplomatic corps, local authorities, religious communities and academics join the reception on the occasion of the Solemnity of St. John the Baptist, Patron Saint of the Sovereign Order of Malta hosted by Ambassador Stefano Palumbo.
Following the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Sovereign Order of Malta and Albania, His Most Eminent Highness Prince and Grand Master Fra' Matthew Festing and the Sovereign Council have decreed to award the Albanian Foreign Minister His Excellency Ditmir Bushati with the Grand Cross of the Order Pro Merito Melitensi, the Order's highest honour.
Within the framework of the excellent relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994, the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Republic of Albania signed today in Tirana a cooperation agreement.
The Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Albania, H.E Stefano Palumbo, and his wife Valérie hosted their second reception on the occasion of the Solemnity of St. John the Baptist, Patron Saint of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
On behalf of the Grand Master and the Sovereign Council, Ambassador Palumbo conferred the high honours on His Most Reverend Excellency the Archbishop of Tirana, Monsignor Rrok Mirdita and to His Most Reverend Excellency the Bishop of Sapa Monsignor Lucjan Avgustini.
Marking the 20th anniversary of the Order’s auxiliary organisation in Albania, Grand Master Fra’ Matthew Festing, accompanied by Albrecht Boeselager Grand Chancellor and Dominique de La Rochefoucauld-Montbel Grand Hospitaller, visited the headquarters of Malteser Albania in Shkodër, northwestern Albania, and learned more of the many projects and activities the organisation has undertaken in these twenty years. He was received by the President of the Organisation Mons. Lucjan Avgustini, the Executive Director Maranaj Marku and the Organisation’s staff, volunteers and collaborators.
It was 1994 when the Sovereign Order of Malta and Albania established bilateral diplomatic relations. The next year Malteser Albania, the Order’s volunteer corps, started working in the country. Fra’ Matthew Festing’s official visit to the Land of the Eagles was thus prompted by two twentieth anniversaries.
