The Sovereign Order of Malta’s Ambassador to Albania, H.E. Stefano Palumbo, accompanied by the First Secretary of the Embassy Mr. Stiven Shala, participated in the state ceremony held by the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, to mark the 112th anniversary of Albania’s declaration of independence.
The ceremony brought together high-ranking officials from Albania and Kosovo, descendants of the patriotic families who signed the independence document, representatives from Albanian political forces, members of the Diplomatic Corps in Tirana, leaders of religious communities, and prominent figures from business, arts, culture, and media.
In his speech, President Begaj highlighted the historical significance of Albania’s independence, emphasizing the visionary leadership of figures like Ismail Qemali. He reflected on Albania’s journey toward independence and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to religious harmony, cultural preservation, and European integration. President Begaj also praised the role of the United States, the European Union, and other international partners in supporting Albania’s democratic progress and its efforts to strengthen institutions, especially within the justice system.
The President called for continued dedication to national development, with a focus on improving citizens’ quality of life, advancing education and healthcare, and ensuring a prosperous future for Albania. He also stressed the importance of open political dialogue, urging leaders to prioritize the interests of the people above all else.
As Albania moves toward European Union membership, President Begaj emphasized the need for collective effort in strengthening democratic institutions and advancing Albania’s position within Europe.
Ambassador Palumbo’s presence at this important event underscores the strong ties between the Sovereign Order of Malta and Albania, as well as the Order’s commitment to supporting the country’s development.
