The Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta commemorated the double anniversary of the Solemnity of St. John the Baptist and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Republic of Albania with a memorable reception held in the Palace of the Brigades in Tirana on 25 June. Hosted by Ambassador Stefano Palumbo, the event took place in the garden of the presidential residence in front of the restored Palatine Chapel of Queen Geraldine.
This year’s reception was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including HRH Crown Prince Leka II of Albania, the Minister of State for Relations with Parliament, H.E. Elisa Spiropali, and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, H.E. Anila Denaj. Also present were members of parliament from various regions of Albania, and numerous representatives of national institutions. His Most Rev. Exc. Mgr. Luigi Bonazzi, Apostolic Nuncio in Albania attended, together with the other distinguished ambassadors of the diplomatic corps accredited to Tirana, testifying to the strong diplomatic ties between the nations.
Among the religious leaders present were the Archbishop of Tiranë-Durrës, Mgr. Arjan Dodaj and the Coadjutor Archbishop of Shkodër-Pult, Mgr. Giovanni Peragine, the Director of the National Caritas, Mrs. Juljana Reso Kalaja, accompanied by priests and nuns closely associated with the Order. The event also welcomed His Eminence Chief Mufti Bujar Spahiu, representing the Muslim community, and His Grace Asti, Bishop of Tirana of the Orthodox Church, underlining the spirit of interreligious dialogue and cooperation.
The evening bore witness to the enduring friendship and cooperation between the Sovereign Order of Malta and Albania, characterised by cultural exchanges, humanitarian efforts and shared values. As the two nations look to the future, the anniversary serves as a reminder of their commitment to mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation in addressing global challenges.
