100th Anniversary of the Order of Skanderbeg

The Embassy warmly acknowledges the centenary celebration of the Order of Skanderbeg, a historic honorary decoration of the Republic of Albania, marking 100 years since its establishment. The anniversary was commemorated with a solemn state ceremony that brought together senior officials and distinguished individuals who have contributed to Albanian society and culture. Counsellor Stiven Shala represented the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta at the event.

On this significant occasion, H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, President of the Republic of Albania and Grand Master of Orders and Medals, bestowed state decorations upon a number of Albanian and international personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions. This marked the first set of awards presented by President Begaj in his capacity as Chair of Orders and Medals under the renewed honours system.

The centennial ceremony underscored the revitalisation of the Order of Skanderbeg as a symbol of merit, service, and European identity, reflecting values of excellence and honour embedded in Albania’s modern state tradition.

The Embassy also notes the important institutional role of the Chancellery for Orders and Medals, under the direction of Mr. Thomas Frashëri, in supporting the organisation of the centenary and the administration of state honours. The Chancellery’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and systematise the honours structure have contributed to the orderly management and presentation of national decorations.

The Embassy extends its congratulations to all recipients and conveys its appreciation to the Office of the President, the Chancellery, and all involved institutions for their work in marking this important anniversary in the Republic of Albania’s state tradition.
